Opel Insignia Grand Sport - Five-door liftback D-class. The second generation of "Insignia" company Opel introduced in December 2016, and the public premiere took place in March 2017 at the Geneva Motor Show. Compared to its predecessor, the car received a more expressive and sporty design, emphasized by the “predatory” headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights, embossed sidewalls and a smoothly falling roof. At the same time, the liftback became the base model instead of the sedan.
The “second” Insignia is built on the General Motors E2XX platform, which is also used in Chevrolet Malibu ninth generation. Thanks to the use of lightweight materials and a change in the body structure, the curb weight of the Insignia decreased by an average of 175 kg, while the body itself became 60 kg lighter. The wheelbase of the model during the change of generations increased by 92 mm - up to 2829 mm, which had a positive effect on the spaciousness for second-row passengers. The front and rear overhangs were shortened, the track was increased by 11 mm and the height was reduced by 29 mm (1455 mm). The hood of the car is made of aluminum and, in the event of a collision with a pedestrian, rises a few centimeters to minimize the consequences of the impact.
The aerodynamic drag coefficient of the Opel Insignia Grand Sport was 0.26 - the best in the class at the time of the release of the updated model.
The smooth lines of the interior and the placement of on-board electronics controls Opel Insignia of the second generation strongly resembles the one that appeared in 2015 Opel Astra K. The center console is slightly turned towards the driver, while he is separated from the passenger by a wide central tunnel and a massive armrest. It is noteworthy that Opel did not overdo it with touch controls and retained the climate control unit with physical buttons. But above is a modern multimedia complex with a large touch screen and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto applications.
The European range of Opel Insignia B powertrains includes gasoline and diesel engines.

On all-wheel drive versions, instead of a cross-axle differential, two multi-plate clutches with electric actuators on the axle shafts are used at the rear. This solution made it possible to distribute traction more “pointwise” in corners, depending on driving conditions. In addition, the Insignia can be equipped with an adaptive suspension and a driving mode selection system with Standard, Sport and Tour presets.
Already in the basic configuration, the five-door is equipped with a keyless opening system for opening locks and starting the engine. Also, the liftback equipment may include: a head-up display, all-round cameras, a lane keeping system and a cross traffic warning system when reversing. In addition, Opel's flagship model comes with Aktion Gesunder Rücken-certified anatomical seats and a heated windshield.
Opel Insignia is produced in Rüsselsheim, Germany.
